Much of the housing in this region is composed of small structures built with local wood and covered with palm fronds. The rest looks like this: cement block buildings with a number of small cement block apartments facing a common hallway. The rooves are tin, the ceiling are sheets of plywood or pressboard, water comes from a common tap in the hall or (occasionally) from a wall tap in a washroom (forget showers!) A slightly modern twist on the traditional Swahili-style house.
